Campers participate in four classes daily. Click here to see the brochure they choose those classes from. There is much to be done here at 4-H Camp Shankitunk. Campers have a schedule of events they follow every day they are here. Click here to see that schedule. We eat all of our meals together, with one or two counselors to a table of eight campers. CAMP SCHEDULE (may vary due to weather and on Sundays and Fridays) 6:45 Roadrunners (optional): Running early in the morning is a great way to start the day! 7:15 Polar Bear Swimming (optional): Swimming early in the morning is another great way to start the day! 7:20: Time to wake up! 7:45 Flag Raising 8:00 Breakfast, followed by tribal duties: Campers are broken into tribes to do some chores around the camp. These chores include: table setting, cleaning the grounds, rec hall, and bathrooms, performing vespers, and flag lowering and raising. After this, campers return to their cabins to clean their personal spaces. The cabins are rated on a scale of 1 to 10 on their neatness by the nurse during the first class. The neatest cabins get the "slickest spot" award and receive a plaque to hang on the cabin door for the day. 9:15 First Class: Classes vary from camper to camper. These classes are chosen before camp starts by the camper and parent. 10:10 Second class 11:00 Recreation/Swim Period "A": Rec periods are basically free time. Campers are free to play games in the field, on the basketball court, ropes course, or in the rec hall. They may also work on crafts in the craft hall. Two tribes may swim during the rec periods. These tribes are posted by the pool and announced. 12:00 Lunch, Slickest Spot awards announced 12:45 Rest: A little down time early in the afternoon to get ready for the rest of the day! 1:15 Third class 2:10 Fourth class 3:00 Snack 3:10 Structured Recreation B - New for 2003, Rec B is now a structured period of time when campers choose from a list of a several activities which change daily 3:55 Recreation/Swim Period "C" 4:35 Counselor/Staff Swim Period 5:30 Supper 7:00 Flag Lowering, Vespers, and Evening Program: A different tribe each day is responsible for putting on a play for the camp in vespers. Vespers is a quiet time at the end of the day to watch a play that has a rewarding moral. Evening Program is a game or activity done in tribes. A different activity is scheduled for each night. They include Gold Rush, Clue, a visit from the Dairy Princess, and much more! 9:00 Camp Fire: We have a camp fire every night, during which we stand in a circle around a campfire and are lead in song by the counselors. 9:45 Lights Out and Taps |
