4-H Camp Bristol Hills is holding our second annual 4-H Camp Cache Bash! This event will be held on Saturday, June 21st. We will be planning many of the traditional geocaching events, including special event-only hides, pot-luck lunch, group photo, and geogames. Admission to the camp will set you back $5/car, and will be collected upon arrival. The gates will open on Saturday morning at 9:00 and activities will run throughout the day, concluding at 6:00pm. The event is open to new cachers interested in learning more about the sport, and we will be holding some Geocaching 101 sessions. These sessions will cover the basics of using a GPS unit, navigating with a GPS, varieties of caches (micros, multi's, trads, mystery, etc), typical contents of a cache, and basic principles of outdoor ethics.

Saturday lunch will be a pot-luck, and everyone is asked to bring thier own place settings along with a dish to pass. Camp will have a walk-in refrigerator for our convenience.

We are also interested in your geocaching tales! There will be a display table for your geocaching photo albums, and another table to show off the interesting signature items (wooden nickels, glass chile's, lammies, poker chips, calling cards, etc...) that you've collected along the way.

Official Geocoin Release Party!
Get your hands on the first ever 4-H Geocoin! This coin was designed by event organizer, Boots... and supported by the New York State Geospatial Leaderhip Team with funding from the Geospatial Literacy Grant. This coin will make its official debut at the 4-H Camp Cache Bash '08, during a breif presentation from the NYS4-H Geospatial Leadership Team. A handful of these beautiful coins will be given away as swag in a special event-only hide, the coords to which will be revealed at the conclusion of the event. Additional coins will be available for purchase for $10 each. This coin is 1.75 inches in diameter, and is available in gold or polished nickel finishes. Why not pick up one of each!!

Pre-Bash Bash!
For those hearty souls who enjoy a longer event, the camp is offering cachers the opporunity to rent a cabin FRIDAY night for $50. Each cabin sleeps between 6 and 19 persons, and all of them run just $50, regardless of size (know another cacher family and don't mind sharing a cabin?). To reserve a cabin for this event, contact the camp office, and ask about the Cache Bash cabin rentals. Reservations are required in advance and space is limited, as there are only 23 cabins available for rent. As a special bonus, this Pre-Bash Bash is listed separately on geocaching.com (because it's really not about the numbers!)

As an added bonus, cachers who stay the night will be invited to bring a ready-to-place cache, and spend some time Friday looking for a place to hide it. They will then add thier coords to the "event-only" caches poster for visitors on Saturday to look for. There is a big fire ring at the camp too, so we'll be sure to stoke up a big old fire, and enjoy the social time. Camp is not providing any meals, so if you are planning to arrive early, expect to take the family out for dinner in nearby Canandaigua or Naples Friday night. Depending on response, we may organize an early bird breakfast on Saturday morning.

If you already have a geocaching userid, visit the geocaching website to register online. You are asked to log only ONE "attended" log for each event (the Pre-Bash and the Bash). Multiple logs for event-only hides will be deleted.
